J.P. Gifford's Sandwich Review
This past weekend I had a chance to go to town with some friends for lunch following Sunday chapel. As we walked into J.P. Gifford’s, our go to weekend breakfast deli, I passed up on ordering my usual steak, egg, and cheese on a roll and opted for one of my favorite lunches – a pulled pork barbeque sandwich. Just looking at the picture of it above the counter I had a feeling I was making the right call, but it was a risky choice ordering something new for the best meal of the week. Not to take anything away from Harold’s pulled pork in the dining hall, but the barbeque pork I had at the villager was on a whole different level. One of my friends who ordered it with my agreed that it was up there for best pulled pork that either of us had ever had. The sandwich came in a brown box that was overflowing with delicious meat and was well worth the eight dollars or so. The meat had a rich taste and a tangy honey barbeque flavor that was complimented with onion and French fries on the side. By the way, the French fries are also a great addition to any sandwich or burger and are my favorite in town. Overall, J.P Gifford’s is a place where you might expect your basic breakfast foods and sandwiches, but one would be surprised at the less commonly ordered dishes like the pulled pork and several burger specialties. If it is traditional breakfast food you are looking for such as waffles and pancakes, The Villager might be a better option. However, don’t be afraid to try some different types of food at this unique deli. This weekend we are planning to try the new barbeque place in town, Smoke, to see if what I had at the Gifford’s can live up as the best pulled pork in Kent.
